How to Cope with COVID-19

The world has gone into a deep, dark place for the past few months. All we want is to feel a sense of normalcy again however, it may not go back for a long time. So how are we suppose to cope with COVID-19 and the aftermath? How do we face job instability, the rise of unemployment rates, the crash of our economy and uncertainty with our financial situation? Today’s blog will be slightly different and will focus on how we can come together to overcome COVID-19.

Coping Mechanisms

Let’s start with some coping mechanisms to help you overcome some stress and anxiety you’re probably feeling. Sure, it won’t give you your job back or put money in your bank, but mental health is the utmost important. Here are some coping mechanisms that Good Therapy suggests.

  • Support: talk about how your mental health is going to someone you trust – even through quarantine, don’t forget that you can pick up the phone and talk to an external factor
  • Relaxation: there’s no better time than now to relax your mind and body, especially if you have to be in quarantine. Use this time wisely
  • Problem solving: if you unfortunately lost your job due to COVID, use this time to perfect your resume and start applying to every job possible. There is a problem and you need to put your mind to work in order to solve it
  • Laugh: this sounds a little strange however, sometimes, you just need a good laugh (or cry) to step over that huge lump in your throat.
  • Physical activity: Don’t forget to stay active, even if you have no where to go. Soak in the sun and go for an afternoon walk with your loved one. Walking is such an underrated exercise but it can really benefit your mental health.

Adapting Your Routine

Now that things have changed, your routine may be completely dysfunctional along with the world. Having a routine can help keep our lives structured so having it shifted can really be overwhelming. But humans need to learn to adapt. Adapt your routine so that you still feel productive (even if you’ve lost your job). Being creative is a great way to stay productive as well as keep your mind flowing. Try to steer clear of watching Netflix all day and staying up all night on social media. This is a really detrimental way to live and can weigh heavily on your mind.

We understand that this is an incredibly difficult time in your life. But we can get through this together.
