When it comes to toxic relationships, there are many different circumstances, however, there usually is only one option – leave. Removing yourself from any toxic relationship requires strength, courage and support. How do you remove yourself from a toxic relationship and still remain yourself after a hard breakup? It can be extremely difficult to love yourself after a breakup, especially a toxic one.

Support

Having emotional support is vital when it comes to taking that step of leaving your partner. Make sure to seek help and support from your family and close friends who you can confide in. Sometimes, people often return to a toxic relationship because they feel like they have nobody else in their lives and already have comfort within their toxic relationship. If you have no family or friends close by, you can always seek help from 3rd parties who are always willing to help out – women’s or men’s shelters will always give you advice. However, if you are in any sort of danger, you must seek help as soon as possible.

View yourself from the outside

It’s hard to realise you’re in a toxic relationship when everything comes as second nature. Sometimes, you need to step outside of your own body and reassess everything from the outside looking in to be able to see what’s actually happening in your relationship. If you’re feeling constantly unhappy, you need to question it instead of sweeping it under the rug. See what it is that’s making you upset and question it.

Final decision

When you feel like you need to leave the relationship, you definitely need to make that final decision and stick to it. When you break up, you’ll miss your relationship – this is perfectly normal. However, you need to remember that this feeling will pass. As human beings, we often get used to and get comfortable and when we’re taken out of our comfort zone, it can be a challenge. Make yourself accountable for the decisions that you make, especially in a toxic relationship.

Toxic relationships are always tricky and although these tips may not apply to you as your situation is more difficult, they are always there as guidelines. There is always someone who can help you when you need it.
